Major Flood Warning For The Thomson And Barcoo Rivers And Cooper Creek

MAJOR FLOODING EASING AT STONEHENGE, WHILST AT JUNDAH RISES AND MAJOR FLOODING ABOVE BOTH THE 1955 AND 1974 FLOOD LEVELS ARE OCCURRING
WINDORAH MAY REACH AROUND 9 METRES ON MONDAY, ABOVE THE LEVEL OF THE JANUARY 1974 FLOOD LEVEL
MAJOR FLOOD PEAK ABOVE THE APRIL 1990 FLOOD LEVEL ESTIMATED TO HAVE OCCURRED OVERNIGHT FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY AT RETREAT
Heavy to intense rainfall since last Sunday caused rapid rises and significant major flooding across the Thomson, Barcoo and Cooper Creek catchments. Major flooding is occurring at Stonehenge, Jundah, Retreat, and Windorah
At Stonehenge, the river level has now fallen below the January 1974 flood level. At Jundah, the river level is continuing to rise and is now above both the 1974 and 1955 flood levels. At Retreat, the river level is estimated to have peaked overnight Friday with major flooding, higher than the April 1990 flood level.
As these floodwaters combine along the Cooper Creek, major flooding above the January 1974 flood level is likely at Windorah during Saturday, with further rises to around 9.00 metres possible by Monday.
Further upstream along the Thomson River, heavy rainfall during Tuesday and Wednesday has caused river level rises in the upper catchment, where minor flooding is occurring at Camoola Park and may develop at Longreach from late Sunday.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible during Saturday, generally clearing from Sunday into early next week. Further rainfall may occur across the catchment during the middle of next week which may result in small renewed river and creek level rises and prolong the current flooding. Any renewed flooding will be below the flood peaks observed in recent days.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.

Thomson River:
Minor to major flooding is occurring along the Thomson River.
The Thomson River at Camoola Park was at 2.40 metres at 7:00 am Saturday and rising, above the minor flood level (2.00 m).
Further rises are expected and the Thomson River at Camoola Park is expected to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) over the next few days

The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 2.40 metres and rising slowly, below the minor flood level (3.30 m).
The Thomson River at Longreach may reach the minor flood level (3.30 m) from late Sunday. Higher levels are likely as floodwater arrives.

The Thomson River at Stonehenge is estimated to have peaked around 8.00 metres during Friday morning. The river level was at 6.80 metres and falling with major flooding around 12:30 pm Saturday, just below the 1974 flood level.
The Thomson River at Stonehenge is likely to remain above the major flood level (5.00 m) during Sunday.

The Thomson River at Jundah was at 8.70 metres and rising around 6:00 am Saturday, above the major flood level (5.00 m), and higher than both the 1955 and 1974 flood levels (8.46 m and 8.38 m, respectively).
The Thomson River at Jundah may reach around 9.00 metres overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Barcoo River to Isisford:
Moderate flooding is likely along the Barcoo River to Isisford.
No recent observations are available for Blackall. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river is estimated to be below the minor flood level (2.00 m) and falling slowly.
The Barcoo River at Blackall is likely to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.

The Barcoo River at Isisford was at 5.79 metres and falling slowly around midday Saturday, above the moderate flood level (5.00 m).
The river level is likely to continue falling slowly over the weekend and remain above the moderate flood level (5.00 m) for the remainder of Saturday into Sunday.

Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:
Major flooding is occurring along the Barcoo River downstream of Isisford at Wahroongha, Glenlock and Retreat.
No recent observations are available along the Barcoo River at Retreat, but it is estimated to have peaked around 13.50 m overnight Friday, with major flooding, higher than the April 1990 flood level.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is expected to ease slowly but remain above the major flood level (8.00 m) over the weekend and into the early part of next week.

Cooper Creek:
Major flooding is occurring along the Cooper Creek at Windorah.
There are no current observations available for the Cooper Creek at Windorah, however the creek level is estimated to be well above the major flood level (5.00 m) and rising.
The Cooper Ck at Windorah (Main Channel) TM may reach around 9.00 metres during Monday, with major flooding higher than the January 1974 flood (8.48 m).

2010 FLOOD LEVELS POSSIBLE AT EULO DURING MONDAY, MAJOR FLOODING CONTINUES TO RISE
MAJOR FLOODING EXPECTED AT HUNGERFORD FROM LATE SUNDAY, 2010 FLOOD LEVELS POSSIBLE FROM AROUND FRIDAY 4 APRIL
Significant and widespread rainfall has been observed across the Paroo River catchment over the last week. This rainfall has resulted in dangerous and rapid river level rises across the catchment. Major flooding is occurring at Eulo and expected at Hungerford from Sunday. Flood levels around or greater than the 2010 flood levels are possible at Eulo from Monday, and at Hungerford from around Friday.
Showers and the chance of thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Saturday, before conditions clear slightly with possible showers from Sunday. This rainfall is likely to prolong the flood peaks currently moving through the Paroo River system.
Forecasts for Eulo and Hungerford will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.
A Moderate Flood Warning is current for the Paroo River (NSW).
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Paroo River to Eulo:
Major flooding is occurring along the Paroo River at Eulo and Humeburn.
The Paroo River at Eulo was at 5.41 metres and rising at about 3:00 pm Saturday afternoon, well above the major flood level (4.00 m).
The Paroo River at Eulo may reach around 6.30 metres during Monday, close to the 2010 flood level (6.27 m).

Paroo River downstream of Eulo:
Major flooding may occur along the Paroo River at Hungerford. Major flooding is rising at Caiwarro.
The Paroo River at Hungerford was last observed around 7:00 am Saturday morning at 1.54 metres and rising, just above the moderate flood level (1.50 metres).
The Paroo River at Hungerford is likely to exceed the major flood level (2.00 m) from late Sunday and may reach around 2.90 metres around Friday, which is around the 2010 flood level (2.87 m).

MAJOR FLOODING SLOWLY EASING AT QUILPIE AND CONTINUING TO RISE AT THARGOMINDAH
Significant rainfall has been observed across the Bulloo River catchment over the last several days, with rainfall totals in excess of 350 mm recorded. This rainfall has resulted in significant river and creek level rises across the catchment. A major flood peak was observed at Quilpie overnight and river levels are now slowly easing. Major flooding is continuing to rise along the Bulloo River downstream of Quilpie, including at Thargomindah.
Showers are forecast to continue across parts of western Queensland, including the Bulloo River catchment.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Bulloo River to Quilpie:
Major flooding is occurring along the Bulloo River to Quilpie.
The Bulloo River at Quilpie is currently at 7.01 metres and falling, above the major flood level (5.00 m).
The Bulloo River at Quilpie is likely to remain above the major flood level (5.00 m) for the next few days.

Bulloo River downstream of Quilpie:
Major flooding is occurring along the Bulloo River downstream of Quilpie, including at Autumnvale.
The Bulloo River at Thargomindah is currently at 6.18 metres and rising, above the major flood level (5.50 m).
The Bulloo River at Thargomindah may reach around 6.50 metres Sunday evening, with major flooding. River rises will likely continue into next week as upstream flood waters arrive.

BEDOURIE ABOVE THE BRIDGE LEVEL, WITH MODERATE FLOODING CONTINUING TO RISE
Moderate to locally heavy rainfall was observed along the Georgina River and Eyre Creek over the past week. This rainfall has resulted in river and creek level rises across the catchment, where major flooding is occurring at Marion Downs and possible at Glengyle and Bedourie as upstream peaks arrive.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Georgina River to Marion Downs:
River levels are generally falling across the Georgina River to Marion Downs, where Marion Downs is steady with major flooding.
The Georgina River at Marion Downs was at 5.42 metres and steady at 7:30 am Saturday, above the major flood level (5.00 m).
The Georgina River at Marion Downs will remain above the major flood level (5.00 m) over the weekend and into next week as floodwaters continue to arrive.

Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs:
Elevated river and creek levels are occurring along the Georgina River as floodwaters continue to arrive from upstream.
Eyre Creek:
Major flooding may occur along the Eyre Creek.
Eyre Creek at Bedourie was at 4.55 metres and rising at 9:00 am Saturday, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) and above the bridge level (4.40 m).
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is expected to remain above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) for the next few days. Further rises to near the major flood level (5.00 m) are possible over the next few days as upstream peaks arrive.

No recent observations are available for the Eyre Creek at Glengyle, however the water level is expected to be above the moderate flood level (3.00 m) and rising.

RENEWED MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG THE WESTERN RIVER AT WINTON
Moderate to heavy rainfall over the last several days has caused river level rises across the Diamantina and Western River, and nearby creeks. Moderate flooding is occurring at Winton where renewed major flooding possible from Saturday afternoon as flood peak arrive from upstream. Further rises and prolonged flooding are possible.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
Major flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. The river level is currently at 7.33 metres and slowly falling, which is 5.23 metres above the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 m). Moderate flooding is estimated to be occurring at Elderslie.
Western River:
Major flooding may occur along the Western River at Winton.
The Western River at Winton was at 2.45 metres around 9:00 am Saturday and falling, with moderate flooding.
The Western River at Winton may reach the major flood level (3.50 m) Saturday afternoon as flood peak arrive from upstream. Further rises and prolonged flooding are possible.

Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Monkira.
Upstream floodwaters are expected to arrive at Birdsville from early April. Further updates will be provided as peaks are recorded upstream.
