for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall developing about parts of northeast Queensland tonight.

Weather Situation
Convergence between a very humid northeasterly flow from the Coral Sea and a southeasterly wind surge pushing up the central Queensland coast is expected to strengthen during the overnight period and into Wednesday morning. This will lead to an increase in the potential for bands of heavy showers and a few thunderstorms about the coast and ranges of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and far southern parts of the North Tropical Coast.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
The risk of HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is expected to gradually increase through the warning area during this evening and overnight, including across the Townsville area, and should persist into Wednesday morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals of 120 to 160 mm are likely, with isolated totals to 240 mm possible.
Conditions should ease by late Wednesday morning as the southeasterly wind surge weakens.

Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Ayr, Giru and Lucinda.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEST Wednesday.

Moderate Flood Warning For The Herbert River

HALIFAX MAY REACH 4.80 METRES TUESDAY EVENING, WITH MODERATE FLOODING
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Herbert River catchment since Thursday evening, particularly in the lower reaches of the catchment. This rainfall has resulted in river and creek level rises across the catchment and minor flooding at Halifax from late Tuesday morning.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Tuesday and into Wednesday, which is likely to cause further river level rises along the Herbert River. River levels at Halifax is expected exceed the moderate flood level from late Tuesday afternoon.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the North Tropical Coast and parts of the Central Coast and a Severe Weather Warning for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing:
Moderate flooding is expected along the Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing.
The Herbert River at Halifax is currently at 4.46 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (4.00 m).
The Herbert River at Halifax is expected to exceed the moderate flood level (4.50 m) late Tuesday afternoon. The river level may reach around 4.80 metres Tuesday evening. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

Final Flood Warning For The Johnstone River Catchment

FLOODING NO LONGER EXPECTED AT MCAVOY BRIDGE AND MOURILYAN MILL
Significant rainfall totals in excess of 190 mm were recorded in the 24 hours to 9 am Tuesday in the lower parts of the Johnstone River catchment. Further areas of heavy rainfall and showers are possible over the coming days, however, river levels are expected to remain below minor flood levels.

North Johnstone:
Flooding is no longer expected along the North Johnstone River.
The North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge is currently at 1.55 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (5.00 m).
The North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge is expected to remain below the minor flood level (5.00 m).

South Johnstone:
Flooding is no longer expected along the South Johnstone River.
The South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill is currently at 1.27 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (8.00 m).
The South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill is expected to remain below the minor flood level (8.00 m).

RENEWED MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT PEETS BRIDGE TUESDAY EVENING
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GORDONVALE FROM OVERNIGHT TUESDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Mulgrave and Russell catchments since Thursday evening, causing river level rises and minor flooding across both catchments.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Tuesday and for the next few days, which is likely to cause renewed river level rises and flooding along the Mulgrave and Russell Rivers.
The situation is being monitored closely and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for the North Tropical Coast.

Mulgrave River:
Renewed minor flooding may occur along the Mulgrave River.
The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge is currently at 3.55 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (5.00 m).
Renewed river level rises are likely with forecast rainfall along the Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge and the river may reach the minor flood level (5.00 m) Tuesday evening.

The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale is currently at 9.55 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (12.00 m).
The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale may reach the minor flood level (12.00 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with forecast rainfall.

Russell River:
Elevated river levels and areas of minor flooding are occurring along the Russell River. Further river level rises and areas of flooding are possible with forecast rainfall.

MINOR FLOODING CONTINUING AT EURAMO
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Tully River catchment since Thursday evening, causing river level rises and minor flooding along the Tully River at Euramo from Saturday morning.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Tuesday and into Wednesday, which may cause renewed river level rises along the Tully River.
The situation is being monitored closely and this warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for the North Tropical Coast.

Tully River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Tully River.
The Tully River at Euramo is currently at 7.05 metres and falling, above the minor flood level (6.00 m).
The Tully River at Euramo may remain above the minor flood level (6.00 m) for the remainder of Tuesday and into Wednesday. Renewed river level rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
