Moderate to heavy rainfall is occurring across parts of the Hunter River catchment which is causing river level rises. Minor flooding is possible at Scone in the upper Hunter overnight Saturday into Sunday and at Aberdeen and Muswellbrook during Sunday morning.

Upper Hunter:
Minor flooding may occur along the Upper Hunter.
The Kingdon Ponds at Scone is currently at 0.29 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (3.20 m).
The Kingdon Ponds at Scone may reach the minor flood level (3.20 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.

The Hunter River at Aberdeen is currently at 1.85 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (7.20 m).
The Hunter River at Aberdeen may reach the minor flood level (7.20 m) during Sunday morning.

The Hunter River at Muswellbrook is currently at 0.64 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (7.20 m).
The Hunter River at Muswellbrook may reach the minor flood level (7.20 m) during Sunday morning.

Moderate to heavy rainfall has been recorded across the Manning catchment which is causing river level rises. Moderate flooding may develop in the Gloucester River during Saturday evening. Minor flooding may develop further downstream in the Manning catchment from overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.

Gloucester River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Gloucester River.
The Gloucester River at Gloucester is currently at 4.07 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (4.30 m) and rising.
The Gloucester River at Gloucester is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.30 m) late Saturday afternoon. The river level may peak around the moderate flood level (4.90 m) Saturday evening.

Manning River:
Minor flooding may occur along the Manning River.
The Manning River at Wingham is currently at 1.81 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (4.90 m).
The Manning River at Wingham may reach the minor flood level (4.90 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.

The Manning River at Taree is currently at 0.23 metres and falling with the tide, below the minor flood level (1.80 m).
The Manning River at Taree may reach the minor flood level (1.80 m) Sunday morning.

The Manning River at Croki Wharf is currently at 0.17 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (1.50 m).

Minor flooding may occur along the Gwydir River downstream of Copeton Dam.

Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and southerly winds are expected during Saturday and Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Illawarra, South Coast and Snowy Mountains forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

Weather Situation
An upper trough is moving through eastern parts of New South Wales and will aid in the development of a low pressure system off the Illawarra coast this evening. This low will drive an increase in rainfall for central eastern parts, but will also generate strong winds along its southern and western portions. The low is then forecast to move further offshore later Sunday, with conditions easing.
DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains
For the COASTAL DISTRICTS AND ADJACENT COASTAL RANGES:
Strong south to southwesterly winds averaging 60 to 65 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are possible about the coastal fringe of the South Coast and Illawarra districts between Narooma and Bellambi from late Saturday evening, extending along the Sydney coastal fringe early Sunday morning, and the Central Coast during Sunday plus eastern parts of the Southern Tablelands.
Winds are expected to ease along South Coast during Sunday, below warning threshold south of Batemans Bay during Sunday morning.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING could develop over the South Coast and Illawarra districts during Saturday evening, and possibly extend to eastern parts of the Southern Tablelands district by early Sunday morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 40 to 50 mm are possible, with potential isolated falls around 80 mm. 24-hourly rainfall totals between 50 to 80 mm are possible, with potential isolated falls around 110 mm. Heavy rainfall is forecast to ease by late Sunday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Braidwood, Moruya Heads, Kiama, Huskisson, Ulladulla, Narooma, Araluen and Nerriga.
For the SNOWY MOUNTAINS:
Strong southeasterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 100 km/h are possible for parts of the Snowy Mountains during Saturday evening, then forecast to ease during Sunday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Cabramurra and Selwyn.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Mid North Coast, Central Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE NORTHERN RIVERS, MID NORTH COAST AND NORTH WEST SLOPES FROM SATURDAY EVENING

A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is combining with a trough over western Queensland and northwestern New South Wales to bring a moist easterly flow across the state. The trough and its associated low will gradually move southeast and reach the Tasman Sea later today, where the low is forecast to deepen and then linger over the southern Tasman Sea into early next week.
Coastal catchments in the Flood Watch area are wet. Inland catchments are relatively dry.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast across the Flood Watch area for the remainder of Saturday with locally heavy rainfall possible. Localised river level rises, and flash flooding are likely within the areas of heaviest rainfall.
This weather system has the potential to cause minor flooding in the Flood Watch area from Saturday evening. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.

Brunswick River and Marshalls Creek
Richmond River
Clarence River
Orara River
Macleay River
Goulburn and Upper Hunter Rivers
Paterson and Williams Rivers
Upper Macintyre River
Gwydir River
Macintyre River
Peel River
Namoi River
Castlereagh River

Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Tweed, Wilsons, Richmond, Bellinger, Hastings, Manning, Culgoa Birrie, Bokhara, Paroo and Warrego

This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.
Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service.
Severe Weather Warnings will be issued or updated if very heavy rain is forecast or observed.
