Moderate Flood Warning for the Thomson River and Cooper Creek

Minor flood levels are likely in the Thomson River at Longreach during the next
few days. Moderate flood levels further downstream at Windorah continue to ease
during Saturday morning.
A chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible over the weekend,
but this rainfall is not expected to worsen the current flooding situation.
There are currently two flood peaks moving along the Thomson River and into
Cooper Creek. The first flood peak is approaching the Longreach area during
Saturday morning and then another is now downstream of Windorah on Cooper Creek.
The most recent river height observation received for the Thomson River at
Camoola Park was 2.85 metres (minor flood) at 6am Thursday and rising. The
Thomson River at Camoola Park will remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m)
during the weekend.
The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 2.05 metres (below minor flood)
and rising. The Thomson River at Longreach is likely to exceed the minor flood
level (3.30 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday. With continued rises upstream,
the river level may reach near the moderate flood level (4.30 m) later in the
weekend or during Monday.
No observations are available at Stonehenge manual gauge. However the Thomson
River at Stonehenge is expected to be above the minor flood level (2.00 m)
during Saturday morning and easing slowly. River levels are expected to remain
above the minor flood level (2.00 m) for the next few days.
The Thomson River at Jundah is currently at 3.37 metres and falling. The
Thomson River at Jundah is expected to remain above the minor flood level (2.50
m) during the weekend.
Moderate flooding is occurring along the upper reaches of the Cooper Creek at
Windorah with the first flood peak now moving downstream. Renewed rises are
likely next week as floodwaters from the Thomson River arrive.
The Cooper Creek at Windorah is currently at 4.30 metres (moderate flood) and
falling. The Cooper Creek at Windorah is expected to remain above the moderate
flood level (4.00 m) during the weekend.
