Flood Watch for the New South Wales Central Coast, Newcastle, Lower Hunter and

Widespread rainfall over the New South Wales Coast from the Central Coast to
the Lower Mid North Coast from early Wednesday has the potential to cause local
and riverine flooding, with intense rainfall expected in the Central Coast,
Lower Hunter and Newcastle areas from Wednesday morning.
A coastal trough will develop along the central parts of the coast over the
next 24 hours; cradled between two strong high pressure systems. This will
bring widespread rainfall to Newcastle; Lower Hunter and Central Coast on
Wednesday. These areas will see some very intense bursts of rain creating
A Severe Weather Warning has been issued for the Newcastle, Central Coast and
Lower Hunter Areas.
The weather system is likely to bring intense rainfall and has the potential to
cause local overland flooding as well riverine flooding from Wednesday onwards.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Manning River minor flooding
Wallis Lake (local flooding)
Myall River (local flooding)
Karuah River (local flooding)
Wollombi Brook and Lower Hunter River minor flooding
Newcastle Area (local flooding)
Paterson and Williams Rivers minor flooding
Central Coast (local flooding)
Lake Macquarie (local flooding)

Flood Safety Advice:
This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams
must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to
higher ground should flooding develop.
Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded
at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides
a flood warning service.
Severe Weather Warnings will be issued or updated if very heavy rain is
forecast or observed.
